Complex for improving naphtha and the production of aromatics and isomers

Complex for improving naphtha and the production of aromatics and isomers

Aromatics complex

The design capacity is 500,000 tons / year (NAFTA). Since its operation in 1985, the complex has succeeded in producing various types of high-octane and unleaded gasoline, in addition to producing about 20,000 tons per year of benzene needed for the alkyl benzene production complex, as well as about 10,000 tons. Annually of the pure toluene needed for the production complexes of lubricating oils in the petroleum sector in addition to its uses in the paint industry and others

This complex includes the following units:

First, the hydrotreating unit

This unit is used to purify naphtha from impurities harmful to the catalyst such as sulfur, oxygen and nitrogen compounds using a catalyst and hydrogen

Second: The naphtha improvement unit: 50,000 tons/year

The purpose of the unit is to improve the properties of naphtha and obtain a high content of aromatic hydrocarbons in gasoline to raise the octane number to produce improved high-octane gasoline.

Third: Sulfolane unit: 15000. Tons / year

The purpose of the unit is to produce benzol and toluene, where in this unit the aromatic compounds are extracted from the feed (the product of the naphtha improvement unit) and separated from other non-aromatic compounds, then the aromatic extract is separated into two basic products of a high degree of purity, namely benzol and toluene, and benzol is used mainly for the production of alkyl Gasoline is also used in all refineries for the production of oils as well as the production of paints
